چکیده
Dear Editor, Radiation is part of mans’ environment, and people are usually exposed to both natural (viz. cosmic rays, environmental soil, water, vegetation, etc.) and man-made (viz. medical exposure, occupational exposure, nuclear fallout, television, mobile, etc.) sources of radiation. In the modern era, radiation is like a double-edged sword, with utilities in fields like medicine, industry, agriculture and research and, at the same time, being a serious potential health hazard if not properly used or contained.

متن کاملSecondary cancers during the radiotherapy of prostate cancer: a review article
Prostate cancer is the most common and second leading cause of death among men in the world. Nowadays, radiotherapy has been known as one of the most affecting methods for prostate cancer treatment. Nevertheless, radiotherapy is accompanied by the concern of developing secondary cancers by the scattered radiation to the neighbor organs at risk. Several studies have shown that secondary cancers...
متن کاملSystemic Targeted Alpha Radiotherapy for Cancer
Background: The fundamental principles of internal targeted alpha therapy for cancer were established many decades ago.The high linear energy transfer (LET) of alpha radiation to the targeted cancer cellscauses double strand breaks in DNA. At the same time, the short range radiation spares adjacent normal tissues. This targeted approach complements conventional external beam radiotherapy and ch...

Materials and Methods: Forty patients with proven cancers of head and neck were randomly divided into 2 equal groups that either received zinc sulphate or placebo (control group). Patients who re...
متن کاملPossible effect of background radiation on cancer incidence in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province.
Background: The induction of cancer appears to be the most important effect of low-dose ionizing radiation to occur in an exposed population. In developing countries 94% of human radiation is from natural sources. In Iran some high altitude regions such as, Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari has high levels of the natural background radiation (higher than the worldwide average). Therefore, investigation o...
